Hornet Silver achieved on of the strongest finishes in the program's five-year history, qualifying 5th in their division and mounting a powerful playoff run that cemented their status as a top-tier competitor. Meanwhile, Hornet Blue demonstrated the program's long-term strength by securing 2nd Place for the Sustain Award. This honor recognizes the team’s exceptional organizational structure and their commitment to building a foundation that ensures the program thrives year after year.
From the Hornet Hive to the graduating seniors, this year has been a massive leap forward, under the coaching and mentorship of Mr. Bocchino at HHS and Mr. O'Keefe from Satz; the entire program has much to celebrate. This season has set a new standard for our student-engineers, and they are already looking forward to making next year even bigger and better.
🏅 Hornet Teams Come Out on Top! 🏆
February 9, 2026 - Following up on their positive display a few weeks ago, Hornet Silver and Hornet Blue teamed up when it counted most and won the Upper South League Tournament! Following qualification matches, Hornet Silver ended up ranked 1st of 24 teams going into Alliance Selection. When the time came to choose their alliance partner, they chose Hornet Blue (who ranked 3rd) and went undefeated in their playoff matches to earn the crown!
There were a lot of 'firsts' that came about from the competition -- with the most notable being that this is the first time two Hornet Robotics teams have teamed up to win a League Tournament. This is not to mention that Hornet Hive, our 3rd team, made it all the way to the semifinal round of the playoffs. Not only is this an outstanding improvement and achievement for them, but marks the first time all three teams have been in the semifinal round or better.
The final massive achievement earned on the day was when Hornet Blue was announced as the winner of the Inspire Award. The Inspire Award is the highest honor an FTC Robotics team can earn and takes into account not just the robot's performance, but other key aspects like design, function, team culture, and community outreach just to name a few.
This combination of honors means that Hornet Silver and Hornet Blue will be representing us at the FTC New Jersey State Championships taking place at Hillsborough High School on March 15th. From the State Championships, 8 teams will qualify for the World Championships, which will be hosted at the end of April at the GRB Convention Center in Houston, TX. We are wishing both teams the very best of luck!
January 26, 2026 - On Saturday, 1/24, our three robotics teams, Hornet Silver, Hornet Blue, and Hornet Hive were all in action at Howell High School. This event marked the last qualifier competition before the League Tournament, which dictates who will compete at the State Championships on March 15. This was an important test for the teams and they came through with flying colors.
When all was said and done, of the 28 competing teams attending, Hornet Silver and Hornet Blue were ranked 1st and 2nd, respectively. Each team suffered just one loss from their 5 matches during the day. This is the first time in the program's short history that we have had both teams rank at the top in any competition. February 8th marks the teams' next opportunity to showcase their bots as they take on the best teams that the Upper South Conference has to offer.
November 3, 2025 - Holmdel High School and its Hornet Robotics program hosted the NJ FTC Southern League competition on Nov. 1, 2025. This event marked the 2025-26 season opener, with all three of Holmdel's teams competing amongst the 20 robotics teams. What started five years ago as a single team has blossomed into a thriving three-team program at HHS. Today, Hornet Blue, Hornet Silver, & Hornet Hive represent the peak of student-led engineering, teamwork, and innovation through the FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC).
The season is officially underway, and our students are busy refining their designs and perfecting their coding. Catch them at the next competition on December 6th at Clearview Regional High School as they continue Holmdel's most ambitious season yet!
